FIELD TRIP on TUESDAY! (Remember your lunch and a jacket.)
What we’re doing this week in LA class…
We will start learning how to level a paragraph–requires no shovel!
Well-written paragraphs feature a topic sentence that expresses what the main idea of the paragraph is, so your reader knows what s/he can expect to learn. The topic sentence is a general statement about the main idea. Because the topic sentence is a general statement, we call it a level 1 sentence.
The reader expects to get more detail about the main idea, so a well-written paragraph usually features some sentences that offer more detail or explanation about the main idea. These are level 2 sentences.
To really create a picture in your reader’s mind, a writer should offer some specific examples or evidence. These are level 3 sentences. The example described in a level 3 sentence always refers to the idea you expressed in the preceding level 2 sentence (the level 2 sentence that came right before the level 3 sentence).
Level 1: Topic Sentence expressing main idea of the paragraph
Level 2: Explanation of the main idea (or of one aspect of the main idea)
Level 3: An example or evidence that shows or proves the explanation in the sentence above
We will look at paragraphs and decide what level each sentence is this week. We will also write paragraphs featuring at least level one and several level 2 sentences.

Parents,
Looks as though eBoard wasn’t as free as it seemed. We’re working with administration to get it purchased for the rest of the year. In the mean-time I’ll be posting anything the rest of the team wants to say on here.
For social studies, there was a quiz today from the homework last night. Apparently some scholars didn’t believe me when I said there would be a quiz and didn’t do the reading. Regardless, I’m being gentle and if the scholar provided any sort of answer for each of the five questions, they will not fail the quiz.
The homework this weekend is to enjoy the aforementioned weekend. It’s not going to be this nice out for long.

Scholars need to read page 70 and 71 in Geography Alive. There will be a quiz tomorrow.

The homework for tonight is to get the five geoterms from page 67 in the book written down into the scholar’s notebook. Some students have this done already. More power to them.
We’re continuing to take a closer look at the mountain as we draw closer to our field trip on Tuesday.
